The Animal Referral Hospital, a new state of the art multidisciplinary specialist referral centre, will open in Brisbane’s western suburbs in January 2017.

The hospital will include:

  • Partners comprised of UQ graduates specialising in oncology, internal medicine and surgery
  • Australia’s only surgical and medical oncology team
  • Queensland’s first veterinary high field MRI
  • 16 slice CT
  • Multiple advanced shared service ultrasound including cardiac ultrasound
  • Full DR digital radiology backed by an in-house radiology team
  • One single integrated specialist referral and 24 hour emergency service providing a cohesive team that listens to the needs of clients and referring vets

Building has commenced and the hospital is expected to open in the New Year. The hospital will be located at 532 Seventeen Mile Rocks Road, Sinnamon Park and is easily accessible from the Centenary Highway.

The hospital is a partnership between Dr Lance Wilson (specialist surgeon), Dr Maurine Thomson (specialist surgical oncologist), Dr Kathleen O’Connell (specialist medical oncologist), Dr Elizabeth Dill-Macky (specialist in internal medicine), Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) and Veterinary Holdings. Veterinary Holdings is a joint venture between ARH Founder Dr Sarah Goldsmid, Dr David Simpson and Greencross Vets. ARH Brisbane is majority veterinarian owned.

Lance Wilson (UQ graduate 2000), has been providing surgery services to clients from western Brisbane to rural Queensland since 2009. He sees the new venture as an opportunity to offer the best level of care to clients and patients.

“ARH has several specialist centres and this will give us a depth of knowledge and experience to draw on. With this opportunity we’ve been able to create a great team with the same philosophy and mind set, with customer service at the very heart.”

As the current directors of Veterinary Oncology Specialists, Australia’s only specialist medical and surgical oncology team, Maurine Thomson (UQ graduate 1987) and Kathleen O’Connell (UQ graduate 2006) are equally enthusiastic about the potential the new hospital brings.

“With a dedicated chemotherapy room, exclusive oncology ward and advanced imaging we’ll be able to offer an exceptional standard of care for oncology patients. We have been planning the hospital for a long time and it’s exciting to be so close to opening.”

Elizabeth Dill-Macky (UQ graduate 1982) was a founding partner in ARH Sydney and has recently returned from the United States where she worked at a referral hospital in North Carolina.

“Given the complex nature of internal medicine, our seamless, single-business specialist and 24-hour emergency care should provide referring vets and owners with confidence that we will achieve the best possible outcomes for their patients and animals.”

More details about the new hospital will be provided over the coming months.
