How do I refer?

The Animal Referral Hospital provides can provide your pet with world class specialist veterinary care when it is beyond the scope of general veterinary practice. A referral must be made by your vet - they can send us your pet's medical records and all the information we need in order to assess treat your pet. Through the referral system, veterinary professionals work together to offer pet owners the best service, treatment options, and health outcome for your animal family member.

If you think your pet could benefit from seeing one of our specialists, ask your vet for a referral.

Initial Appointment

At your initial consultation, the vet will go through all of your pet’s history, assess your pet and create a treatment plan. Consult fees, medications issued and any tests that are performed will be payable after consult. Your pet may need to stay in hospital for further diagnostic work or treatment, so we would advise to keep some flexibility wherever possible on the day of your appointment. The vet will discuss any costs with you before these take place unless it is an emergency situation. Please see reception after each appointment to finalise your account.

Hospital Stays
Sometimes your pet may be required to stay at ARH for a period of time for further diagnosis and treatment. At this point, you will be provided with a consent for treatment form which will have the estimate of costs of treatment required. ARH requires at least a 50% of the estimate to be paid at the start of treatment, with the account to be finalised at the time of your pets discharge. We may ask for a progress payment during your pet’s stay in hospital. Click Here to learn more.

Payment Information
At ARH we don’t want you to suffer from “bill shock” at the end of treatment, so forgive us for the many conversations about money. The cost of specialist treatment is similar to human specialists treatment, but without the Medicare rebates! We will do our best to keep you updated about your bill, but feel free to discuss this when speaking to your vet. When appropriate we will send you an account update by SMS. Click Here to learn more.
