Emergency and Critical Care Specialist

The Animal Referral Hospital, Homebush, NSW Australia

The Animal Referral Hospital is pleased to offer a newly created position for an ECC specialist to join our two existing ECC specialists at our Homebush facility. As our service continues to grow, including development of a new ICU facility, a growing caseload, and a separate intensive care service during the day to support our 24/7 emergency veterinarians, additional expertise is required for both clinical case management and mentoring of our emergency team, interns, and nursing staff.

The Animal Referral Hospital is the largest specialist and emergency group in Australia, with over 300 employees across 7 locations. Our Homebush facility was established 17 years ago, and provides referral services in the fields of small animal surgery, internal medicine, intensive care, medical oncology, radiation oncology, ophthalmology, diagnostic imaging, dentistry and exotics. We have a great team of long-term employed support staff who are engaged, and committed to providing the highest quality patient care. On-site facilities include MRI, CT, ultrasonography, endoscopy, Idexx laboratory equipment, numerous ventilators and blood gas analyzers, lecture theatre, meeting facilities, dedicated quiet office for our specialists, staff room and a 24-hour reception team.

Required

  • DACVECC or FANZCVS - eligible for specialist registration in NSW
  • OR: board-eligible residency trained in emergency and critical care

Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) Brisbane is pleased to offer a position for an experienced veterinarian to join our growing Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) team.

About us

Formed as a partnership between local Queensland specialists and the ARH group, ARH Brisbane is a recently opened specialist and emergency hospital at Sinnamon Park in Brisbane’s west. Our purpose-designed, state of the art hospital, offers small animal surgery, internal medicine and surgical and medical oncology services, in conjunction with an after-hours emergency and critical care service. Equipment includes high field MRI (under construction), 16-slice CT, Puritan Bennet ventilators, blood gas analyzer and all additional surgical, medical and ECC equipment expected of a premier specialist/emergency hospital.

The position

This opportunity would suit an energetic individual who enjoys learning, the challenge of a busy hospital and a multi-disciplinary specialist hospital environment. The ECC veterinarian will rotate through day, evening and night shifts (on average, 3 or 4 consecutive shifts followed by larger blocks of days off). Emergency experience is desirable but not essential. ECC veterinarians will report to and work under the guidance of Dr Monique Stanley, Brisbane ECC Director, with additional support provided by ARH ECC specialist, Dr Merrin Hicks.

With the ongoing expansion of our service, and with 2 full-time ECC specialists, the Animal Referral Hospital is pleased to offer a newly created position for an emergency and critical care Intern. We seek an energetic, motivated veterinarian with a minimum of at least 1 year clinical experience, who is interested in learning more about emergency and critical care, in a challenging but supportive environment.

Under the mentorship of our experienced team, including specialists in all major disciplines, the internship program will include rotation through daytime, nighttime, evening and weekend shifts. Primary case responsibility and seeing consultations will be an important part of the internship, and some sole-charge will be required. Regular tutorials, case discussion, and interaction with specialists in all departments at our hospital will enhance the learning experience during your time with us.

Desirable attributes for this position

  • Interest in undertaking membership examinations (ANZCVS) at the end of the program
  • Interest in presenting at ANZCVS Science week or another conference, seminar series, or preparing a scientific paper
