Each behaviour consultation can take anywhere from 90 minutes to 3 hours depending on the problem.

Each pet is an individual and therefore it takes a significant amount of time to understand each pet’s behaviour and then discuss ways of modifying and managing it. Each pet is individually assessed by the veterinary behaviourist and then a behaviour modification program, along with environmental management strategies are recommended which takes into consideration not only the pet and its problems, but also the whole family and their lifestyle. In some cases medication is also necessary as most behaviour problems are due to neurochemical imbalances in the brain that need to be normalized much the same as in medical conditions such as diabetes medication is needed. Our methods are kind and humane to both pets and their owners and focus on reward based methods.

Examples of canine and feline cases commonly seen include:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Noise Phobias ( e.g. thunderstorms, fireworks)
  • Aggression directed towards people
  • House soiling, Urine spraying
  • Separation anxiety, Aggression directed toward other pets
  • Obsessive behaviours (e.g. tail spinning, fly snapping)
