The Animal Referral Hospital is pleased to announce we now operate 2 specialist and emergency hospitals in Melbourne, located at Essendon and Point Cook. We have specialists in the fields of surgery, internal medicine, and emergency and critical care, as well as access to our national network of specialists in all major disciplines. We seek an experienced emergency clinician to help mentor our junior vets, provide leadership, and be involved in training and education.

Our Essendon location, close to central Melbourne, is set for a major refurbishment, and currently provides excellent facilities and equipment. The position would suit an energetic individual who enjoys the challenge of a busy hospital and who enjoys a multi-disciplinary specialist hospital environment. This includes daily cross-over with medicine and surgery, as well as our visiting radiologists, oncologists and ophthalmologists. Our ECC specialist is based at our Point Cook location, and there is a requirement to rotate through that site from time to time. A minimum of 4 years experience as a veterinarian, including a total or 12 months experience in emergency is desired.

This is primarily an after-hours role, with the senior veterinarian rotating through afternoon, night and weekend shifts. A set roster or set days off is possible. The position includes 4 weeks annual leave plus 1 week paid study leave, a $1500 per year study allowance, regular tutorials, case discussion, in-house seminars and daily interaction with specialists from all major disciplines. We are focused on providing career pathways and professional development for all our team members, and salary packaging a Masters degree or graduate diploma is available.

Required

- A minimum of 4 years experience as a veterinarian

- Veterinary degree eligible for registration in VIC

- Willingness to work hard, lead by example and be part of our team

Desirable attributes for this position

- Membership examinations (ANZCVS) in medicine, surgery or ECC, overseas equivalent, or a desire to undertake further study in the field of ECC

- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, pet owners and referring veterinarians

- A genuine enjoyment of helping people and their pets when they need us most
