About us

The Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) is a well-established group of specialist veterinary hospitals. Services offered in our hospitals include internal medicine, surgery, oncology, ophthalmology, dermatology, animal behaviour, exotics and avian, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, and physiotherapy. Facilities at our Homebush location include digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, CT and MRI scanners, in house diagnostic laboratory, and ECG. Radiation therapy is also available.

Due to our rapidly expanding organisation we now have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and dynamic individual to take on a Surgical Internship commencing immediately.

The position

This position would suit an energetic individual who is motivated by learning and being challenged. You will work under the guidance of our Small Animal Surgical Specialists and alongside our Senior Surgical Registrars, Surgical Residents and other interns. You will assist in surgical procedures and be closely involved in the assessment, diagnosis and post operative care of a diverse variety of challenging surgical cases. The successful applicant will also spend time working within the emergency/critical care department as a primary accession clinician.

Interns are expected to participate in daily rounds, journal club meetings and case presentations. They will be encouraged to complete a published work during their internship and will be supported in the completion of ANZCVS surgery membership examination.

What we can offer

This internship offers an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated, hardworking and professional individual to work and learn in a busy yet supportive referral hospital. There may also be opportunities to work at any of our other sites during the 18 months. Previous ARH interns have continued on to residency positions worldwide. A very competitive annual salary plus leave entitlements, continuous education program and other employee benefits will be provided.

About you

You have excellent written and verbal communication, excellent time management skills, a strong ability to prioritise and have a passion for outcomes, patient care and provision of excellent clinical service. You enjoy working as a team but also flourish individually. With a flexible and positive attitude towards work, you'll fit in nicely with our culture.

Requirements

Applicants must be eligible for veterinary registration in NSW, have at least 1-2 years of clinical experience, excellent written and spoken communication and a strong knowledge base on which to build. Previous applicants need not apply and sponsorship is not available so you must have appropriate rights to work in Australia. Applications should include curriculum vitae, a letter stating the reasons for seeking the internship and the name and contact details of three referees with at least one from an academic and one from a practice/clinical background.
